Kevin! We’ve got to give this forum new life. We need you, and we need community and discussion. Kick the spammer off and maybe advertise this space elsewhere on BAGR stuff. Anything. And thank you for everything you do.
Are you ever like watching a movie/ show with a friend and see straight through the practically neon light- flashing metaphor it portrays for the doom of our civilization? And you look at your friend in desperate hopes of a mutual realization only to hear "That was a silly movie." Wall-E. Black Mirrors. Idiocracy. I just finished watching The Giver (still need to read the book/ full of shame), and is it not terrifyingly true that we often prioritize work over what makes us truly feel alive? That we load up on medications to numb all the pain, sometimes to a point where some of us feel absolutely nothing? Terrifying that technology provides a sense of virtual comfort that is in fact not reality? Yet, we lock up people for seeing and hearing things that aren't 'real'. I am familiar with this, because my mother is high end Schizophrenic. And you know what? Her reality seems far more genuine to me than a voluntary zombie lost in mindless scrolling of social media. And I say 'we' because I still believe that we are all in this together for, you know, the sake of humankind and its' continuing existence. Wall-E - People become so indulged in their electronic handhelds, marketed with virtual ads, that they never leave their seats. They get fat, super fat. They do not interact with anyone outside their screen. And it turns out they are floating around in space while Earth was consumed with trash. Wall-E saves the day with a plant, possibly the last of its' kind and everyone wakes up from a zombie-like stupor. Hooray Black Mirrors- This show pretty much nails it. When I first watched it, I thought "Wow, this could happen one day in the future. That's scary." And now, I realize it's happening right now, which is ultimately breathtaking, depressing, and f'd up. Idiocracy- Dude, this movie is a total forecast of what our world is becoming. Electronic Mickey D dispensers. Our current presidential status. Kid Rock is running for senate? People entirely consumed in electronics and self-indulged. It's.... idiocracy! The Giver - Bred to succeed. You are taught in school how to act, what to wear, and what's to become for your future. You graduate. They send you to work. Childhood annihilated. Sound familiar? Control. Routine. Distraction. Freedom? Purpose? Feeling? The whole works. Escape to Neverland, you get what I'm sayin'? Just some thoughts into words. I'd love some feedback with y'all's opinions and experiences. One more thing, on the topic for my next rant. You know how sometimes, every now and then, something makes you really feel alive? I mean like scream at the top of your lungs, cold chills, not a care in the world alive!? Does social media ever make you feel that way, alive?
